James Suckling releases 2017 Left Bank scores

By April 6, 2018Bordeaux, Bordeaux 2017

Earlier this week, James Suckling published his Right Bank 2017 scores. The remainder of his report on the vintage, which contains 770 tasting notes in total, was released last night.

Suckling calls the vintage “surprising”. Despite spring frosts being the main talking point around Bordeaux 2017, he found reasons to cheer.

“I scored some of the wines from the great names of Bordeaux, such as the first-growths and blue-chip Right Bank wines, between 96 to 99 points. Of course, these were the rare exceptions where remarkable terroirs, precise viticulture and winemaking delivered terrific results.”

“The 2017 vintage will always be remembered for the horrible frost, but the top wines of the vintage should also add to the reputation of this unique year.”

His highest scorers are Yquem (“Such clarity. Extreme but wonderful style”) and Latour (“Superb. Classic great Bordeaux. Wow.”)

A selection of Suckling’s overall top scoring wines are shown in the table below. You can also view them on the Liv-ex critic scores page.
