Talking Trade – Liv-ex 50 keeps climbing

By November 24, 2017Fine Wine Market, Talking trade

A busy week on the exchange meant that although the absolute value of Bordeaux trade remained flat, the region’s market share fell. Activity from all other regions apart from the Rhone crept up.

The Liv-ex 50 advanced to another new five-year high, closing at 353.11 on Thursday, up 0.4% for the week. Lafite Rothschild 2010 was the top riser, up 3% in the past seven days. Earlier today Liv-ex published a recent blog examining the performance of the Bordeaux 2010 vintage. Many of the wines are now above their release price having initially fallen in the secondary market.

Champagne’s market share was lifted as Louis Roederer Cristal 2009 found the bid in volume. A recent panel tasting reported on by Jancis Robinson gave this wine a score of 18.4/20, the highest out of 8 different pairs of champagnes from the Grand Marques.

Two large parcels from the 2016 vintage were among the top traded wines this week. Both wines have seen slight increases from their ex-negociant release. Lafite 2016’s last trade price is up 6% while Mouton is up 4%.
