1998 price performance
Three First Growths from the 1998 vintage have traded at all-time highs this year: Margaux, Latour and Mouton Rothschild. The most recent of these was Latour 1998, which traded at £4,450 per 12×75 two weeks ago.
As the chart above shows, the Market Prices of these three wines are currently at all-time highs. However, they remain significantly below the higher-scoring Lafite Rothschild 1998 (£7,350 per 12×75).
Despite Lafite’s premium, the wine’s 1998 vintage is currently being offered 24.6% below the price it commanded during the Chinese-led market boom in 2011. Haut Brion 1998 is also available at a 12.4% discount from peak.
