Palmer 2006
Palmer 2006 has been released at €215 per bottle ex-negociant. With ten years ageing in bottle, today’s release represents an increase of 72% from its initial 2007 en primeur release price (€125). It is being offered by the international trade at £2,600 per 12×75.
It is being reported that around 1,000 cases of the wine have been made available.
Neal Martin awarded the wine 94 points. Last year he noted that the wine “was wonderful out of barrel ten years ago and now in bottle, it fulfils its promise with a stunning, precise bouquet of maraschino, iodine, cassis and tobacco scents that seem a few years younger than its Margaux peers.” He adds that “what is so striking is the fineness of the tannin and just how well that oak is subsumed into the fabric of the wine.”
Typically, ex-Chateau releases command a premium to wines already available in the secondary market and today’s release is no exception. The wine is available for 40.5% more than cases already available in the secondary market, however, current volumes are low.
