Rauzan Segla 2016 released

Rauzan Segla 2016

Rauzan Segla 2016 has been released at €60 per bottle ex-negociant, an 18.8% increase on the 2015 price of €50.50. It is being offered by UK merchants for £732 per 12×75, up 28.4% in sterling terms on the 2015 release of £570 per case.

Critics have praised this year’s Rauzan Segla as a great wine, although not quite matching the exceptional 2015. Neal Martin awarded a score of 95-97, noting that it is “a wonderful follow-up to the 2015 last year, although not quite with the same audacity and bravado.” Jancis Robinson, scoring the wine 17 points, praised the “lifted, savoury nose,” but questioned whether the wine was “diplomatic on the palate?”.

Given the critical responses, today’s opening price placing the wine below 2015 and great vintages such as 2009 and 2010 appears balanced.

Alternatively buyers might see value in the 2012. Robert Parker declared that this “may turn out to be as strong an effort as their 2010,” yet the former currently trades at a 47% discount to the latter.
