Grand Puy Lacoste 2016 released

Grand Puy LAcoste 2016

Grand Puy Lacoste 2016 has been released at €60 per bottle ex-negociant, up 25% on the 2015 release price (€48). It is being offered by the international trade at £735 per 12×75. This is 48.5% higher than the open price of the 2015 (£495).

Several critics have heaped praise on the wine. James Suckling (96-97) observed that it has “lots of energy”, while Neal Martin commented: “What a brilliant wine. It is classic Pauillac to its core.” He awarded it 95-97, higher than all other recent vintages.

Liv-ex members were also impressed with the wine, rating it as the top ‘value’ wine of the vintage for the seventh year in a row. However, with ‘value’ defined as wines with an expected open price of under £500 per case, some may be surprised at today’s release.

Other vintages that might offer relative value include the 94-point 2006 and 95-point 2015. Both are available at discounts to the 2016.
