Evangile 2016

Evangile 2016 took the trade by surprise by coming out late on Friday afternoon. The wine has been released at €180 per bottle ex-negociant, up 20% on the 2015 release price (€150). It is being offered by the international trade at £2,125 per 12×75, up 36.2% in sterling terms on the 2015 release price of £1,560 per case.

Critics were full of praise for this year’s Evangile. James Suckling scored the wine 98-99 points and said it had “such great quality and [was] very sexy”. Antonio Galloni commented that “the wine soars out of the glass with extraordinary perfume” and awarded 94-97 points.

Prices for Evangile are 81.9% correlated to Wine Advocate score. Based on today’s release of £2,125 per 12×75, Liv-ex’s ‘fair value’ methodology places the wine far above the trend line.

Buyers looking for value, therefore, might consider the 98-point 2010 vintage. The wine has several years in bottle and is available at a 11.2% discount to the 2016.
