Boom! Canon 2016 released.

Canon 2016

Canon 2016 has been released at €72 per bottle ex-negociant, up 20% on the 2015 release price (€60). It is being offered by the international trade at £880 per 12×75, an increase of 17.3% on the opening price of the 2015 in sterling terms (£750).

Canon 2016 received mostly high scores from critics. Jane Anson suggested that the wine “is right at the top of what St-Emilion can offer” and scored it 98. Neal Martin awarded it a similarly high 97-99 points but commented that “the 2015 might be a hair’s breadth better”.

Fortunately for interested buyers, the price of the 2016 is more than a hair’s breadth lower than the current price of the 2015. In fact, the 2016 is available at around a 50% discount to its older sibling, making it a likely target for collectors. It also falls below the price suggested by ‘fair value’ methodology, as shown in the chart below.

The 2014 and 2012 vintages may also look attractive.
