Rieussec 2016 has been released at €42 per bottle ex-negociant, equal to the price of the 2015 (€42). It is expected to be offered by merchants at £480 per 12×75.
At this price, the new release would be higher than all recent back vintages available in the secondary market. The highly-scored 2010 might stand out to buyers seeking relative value. It is available at £286, 40% below the expected price of the 2016.
The 2016 Rieussec has received a wide spread of scores from critics. James Suckling rated it as his top Sauternes of the vintage, declaring it “a triumph” and awarding it 98-99 points. Neal Martin was less effusive, calling its bouquet “much more straightforward” than the 2015’s. He scored it 92-94.
For collectors, this might be more of a straightforward decision than a triumph.
