Lagrange (Saint Julien) has been released at €34.80 per bottle ex-negociant, 20.8% higher than the opening price of the 2015 (€28.80). It is being offered by the international trade for £420 per case, up 40% in sterling terms on the 2015 release price of £300 per 12×75.
Critical reception of this year’s vintage has been positive. Jancis Robinson awarded a score of 16.5 commenting that although the wine is “far from opulent” it is a “quite delicate representative of the appellation.” Neal Martin scored Lagrange 94-96 points, noting that it is “a superior Lagrange to the 2015, this may well rank as the finest produced.”
This year’s Lagrange is entering the market as the most expensive vintage since the 2005, although it does have a higher critic score than other recent vintages, which in part supports the price. Further support can be found from Liv-ex members, who placed this year’s vintage in tenth position for top value wines of this En Primeur campaign. Buyers looking for exposure to great vintages might be interested in the 2009 or 2010, which although lower scoring, have several years in bottle and can be found at a discount to this year’s release.
Les Fiefs de Lagrange has also been released at €17.40 per bottle ex-negociant, 13.7% higher than initial price of the 2015 (€15.30).
