Branaire Ducru 2016 released

Branaire Ducru 2016 has come out at €39.60 per bottle ex-negociant, 6.5% higher than the release price of the 2015 (€37.20). It is being offered by merchants for £465 per 12×75, up 17.7% on the 2015 release of £395 in sterling terms.

Neal Martin scored the wine 92-94 and commented that it has “great potential, one of the best produced at the estate in recent years.” James Suckling was more effusive in his praise, awarding a score of 95-96, noting that the wine was “clearly the best wine I have tasted from Branaire-Ducru. Exquisite depth and richness are on offer.”

For buyers looking for relative value, the 2010 might look attractive. Despite having a score of 94, several years in bottle and being from one of the all-time great vintages, it is available at a small premium to the latest release. However those looking for reassurance of the quality of this year’s vintage should note in our members’ survey results released last week, Branaire Ducru came 5th in the category of top ten value wines of Bordeaux 2016.
