Batailley 2016 – batting above the rest

Batailley 2016

Batailley 2016 has come out at €34 per bottle ex-negociant, 6.25% higher than the release price of the 2015 (€32). It is being offered by merchants for £414 per 12×75, up 16.9% on the 2015 release of £354. This makes 2016 the second most expensive vintage on the market, after the much older 2006 vintage.

Neal Martin scored the wine 93-95 and noted that it is “perhaps not as easy or as charming to taste as other Pauillac 2016s at this stage, but knowing this property well, I know how it can blossom when it matters”. Other critics awarded it similar scores.

For buyers looking for relative value, the 2009 might look attractive. Despite having the same score as the latest release and several years in bottle, it is available at an 13% discount to the latest release.
