Cos d’Estournel has surprised many this morning by being the first major release of this year’s campaign. The 2016 vintage is priced at €120 per bottle ex-negociant, the same release price as the 2015 vintage. It is being offered for £1,400 per 12×75, an increase of 10.1% on the 2015 in Sterling terms. For Dollar buyers, the releases is around 5% cheaper than last year’s.
Wine critics have heaped praise on this year’s offering. James Suckling, who scored the wine 97-98, noted, ‘this is a wine that really grabs your attention. Wow is the word.’ Jancis Robinson scored the wine 18/20, complementing the wine’s ‘energy and raciness on the nose’. By way of price comparison, buyers interested in Cos d’Estournel should note the 2005 vintage, which James Suckling scored 99, and last traded on Liv-ex for £1,520.
The chateau has also released their white wine, Cos d’Estournel Blanc at €84 per bottle ex-negociant, and their second wine, Pagodes de Cos at €32 per bottle ex-negociant. Both these release prices are identical to their 2015 counterparts. However once translated into Sterling, Cos d’Estournel Blanc is being offered for £985 per 12×75, an increase of 10.9%, Pagodes de Cos can be found for £385 per 12×75, an increase of 11.6%.
