The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index closed October on 291.36, up 3.6% on the previous month. This is its joint largest monthly move this year. The index has now risen for eleven consecutive months and is up 22.3% year-to-date. It is at its highest point since March 2012 when it closed on 293.55.

It was also a positive month for the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50. The index closed October up 3.5%.

The biggest movers last month came from France and Italy. The top two were from Burgundy with high-scoring Comte Vogue, Musigny Vv 2012 (WA 98) and DRC Tache 2011 (WA 95) increasing by more than 15%.

The Rhone and Italy (Tuscany) also saw a number of wines make strong gains. Beaucastel, Chateauneuf Du Pape 2012 (WA 96) was up 12.2%. Today it traded at an all-time high of £448 per 12×75.

There were some declines. In October, Vieux Chateau Certan 2009 (WA 99) and Haut Bailly 2009 (WA 100) pulled back slightly from the significant the gains of previous months as some of the big movers took a breather.
