It was another solid week for Bordeaux with trade by value up at 80.6%. The Fine Wine 50 Index was firmer, closing Thursday at 331.40. This week saw the pre-release of two wines from Southern Rhone – Beaucastel, Chateauneuf Du Pape 2015 and Vieux Telegraphe, Chateauneuf Du Pape 2015.
First Growth trade was lower at 14.2%. Lafite Rothschild was the most active, representing 29% of First Growth activity. The “great” Bordeaux vintages were the most active from the region this week. 2009 was top by value, followed by 2010 and 2005.
Pape Clement 2009 (WA 95) was top by volume and value, hitting an all-time high of £1,382 per 12×75. In April, the wine was awarded a “perfect” 100-point score by Robert Parker in the Hedonist’s Gazette and this saw a rise in activity and prices.
Forts Latour 2010 (WA 97) was active this week and featured in the top wines traded by value. It is the top-scoring vintage and is up 30.8% from December 2015. Robert Parker said the 2010 is the “finest” Forts Latour he “ever tasted”.
Rauzan Segla 2006 (WA 91) was in the top wines traded by volume and hit a fresh high of £590. It has increased 52.8% from January 2016 when it traded at £386.
