Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 rises for sixth consecutive month

Liv-ex Fine Wine 100

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index has risen for the sixth consecutive month, the first time it has done so since March 2011. It closed May on 254.31, up 1.56 points (0.62%) on April’s closing level of 252.75. The index’s gain bucked the trend of recent years where the Liv-ex 100 has dipped during the En Primeur campaign: the last time that it rose in May was in 2010.

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 Index also gained, rising 0.45% to close on 285.01, its highest monthly close since February 2014.

May’s movers were from a variety of regions, with Burgundy, Italy, Rhone, Bordeaux and Champagne featuring in the five best and worst performers. Lafite 2010 (RP 98) – which traded at a low of £5,000 in December – was the highest Bordeaux climber, rising 5.8% to £5,618. It was a less successful month for Yquem, which saw both its 2001 (NM 100) and 2007 (NM 98) among the five wines which fell furthest in May.
