While the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 held steady, trade on the Exchange dipped on the previous week. Champagne, which showed strong price performance in February, saw little activity. Trade for Italy picked up, and Bordeaux held steady.
97+ point (Robert Parker) Screaming Eagle 2013 – a “beauty” and a “terrific example of this iconic estate” –was the week’s most traded by value and was joined by First Growths from last century.
Vieux Chateau Certan 2005, which was not reviewed by Parker in last year’s ten year respective of the vintage, was amongst the most traded wines when measured by both value and volume. Its price has seen several fluctuations, and its last trade price is 74.6% above release.
Activity was also seen for wines from 2011, which was ranked as the worst physical vintage of the century by tasters at Southwold according to Jancis Robinson. Andrew Jefford came out in defence of the vintage in an article for Decanter earlier this week.
