Liv-ex 50

The exchange saw good levels of activity this week, with trade by value up 37.6% on the previous week. The Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 also reached an eight month high when it hit 272.05. Although it dipped a little yesterday to 271.38, the index is still posting a 0.5% week-on-week gain.

Regional share

While Bordeaux’s share dropped back slightly, First Growth trade was at a buoyant 40.7%. This was largely boosted by trade for Lafite Rothschild, in particular the 99+ point 2009 and 98 point 2010 (Wine Advocate). Ducru Beaucaillou 2008 (95+ WA) was also amongst the top traded by value.

Trade by value

Trade for Burgundy, the Rhone and Champagne surged this week. While Burgundy was boosted by high-value trades for DRC, the Rhone saw good activity for the recently released 2012 Guigal La Las: all three were in the top 20 wines traded by value. Meanwhile the recent Champagne releases continued to find the bid: Taittinger Comtes 2006 and Dom Perignon 2005 were among the wines most traded by volume, while Krug 2002 was tenth most traded by value.
