This year Lafite Rothschild 2012 was released in bottle, becoming the Chateau’s youngest – and cheapest – physical vintage available in the market. As the chart above shows, its price had drifted significantly since its En Primeur release, when it was offered by merchants for £4,000 per 12×75. Its current market price of £3,350 represents a 16% drop.
Its trade price saw a slight boost in April – up to £3,140 – in anticipation of Robert Parker’s review of Bordeaux 2012 in bottle, but dropped back after it was revealed that the critic had awarded it just 91 points, a downgrade from its barrel range of 92-95. Recently it has barely moved from trading at around £3,000 per 12×75, but is seeing high demand at this level.
It would appear that buyers see this as an opportunity to bag some Lafite in bottle – with a smaller price tag.
