This week has seen a number of key releases from Italy and the New World. On Monday, Opus One released its 2012 vintage at a lower price than all back vintages previous to 2011. In a Tweet to Liv-ex, James Suckling confirmed it to be the “best for years for me”.
Yesterday, Masseto 2012 and Almaviva 2013 were released. Chilean Almaviva 2013 is being offered by merchants at £670 per 12×75. As the chart above shows, this is lower than the majority of back vintages. It has not yet received a review from any key critics. Masseto 2012 was awarded 99 points by Suckling who added: “The pure merlot magic is there.” Allocations are still being secured, so no merchant release prices are currently available.
This morning Chilean Seña 2013 was released, with early offers around £660 per 12×75. Suckling has awarded the wine 99 points. He noted: “It builds on the palate and shows the structure of a first growth Bordeaux but remains so Chilean.”
