Yesterday, we looked at the relative performances of the five Bordeaux First Growths. Overall Haut Brion was shown to have climbed the most since the market’s low in July 2014, while Lafite Rothschild – the best performer during the China-led bull market – has continued to drift. But which Haut Brion vintages are leading the charge?
The steepest climber has been Haut Brion 2005. It made steady gains ahead of Robert Parker’s ten year retrospective of the vintage at the end of June 2015 – and buyers were rewarded when the critic upgraded it to 100 points. The 2012 – upgraded to 98 points in April – is another vintage which has benefitted from the power of Parker.
However, gains have not only been made by upgraded wines. As the table below shows, nine of the ten most recent physical vintages of Haut Brion are in positive territory since July 2014. Haut Brion 2008 (96) points – one of the cheapest vintages last year – has been steadily climbing and has gained nearly 10%.
