Talking Trade: 10th – 16th July 2015

Although the volume of trade on the Exchange dipped this week, the overall value increased as buyers’ attention turned back to Bordeaux.

From Bordeaux, two themes emerged: demand for Mission Haut Brion, and demand for the 2010 vintage. Mission Haut Brion 2005 – recently upgraded to 100 points by Robert Parker – was the most traded wine of the week by value. The 2012 also found the bid while the 2010 fell just outside of the table below. Overall, Mission Haut Brion vintages represented 16% of all trade by value.

Bordeaux 2010 replaced 2005 as the vintage in the spotlight, accounting for 20.7% of all trade by value (compared to 2005’s 9.8%). Duhart Milon 2010 and Palmer 2010 (“One of the superstars of the vintage” according to Parker who awarded it 98+ points) both feature in the tables above and below, but were not alone in seeing high levels of activity:  trade for Margaux 2010 and Pichon Lalande 2010, amongst others, also helped to make up the numbers.
