Bordeaux’s trade share by value on Liv-ex rose to 68.8% this week, following a fortnight where the region accounted for less than 60% of trade. Nonetheless, this is still significantly lower than the 77.8% share it has seen so far in 2015. The Bordeaux First Growths continued to see relatively low levels of trade but the Liv-ex 50 – which tracks their performance – remained stable, rising 0.11% on the previous week. Although there has been little fluctuation in 2015, its closing level yesterday of 271.92 was the highest since February.

There has been notable interest in the Bordeaux 2005s ahead of Parker’s retrospective, which is due at the end of the month. On the Liv-ex blog this week we have covered a few of the wines that have seen recent price gains, including Palmer and Mission Haut Brion. In terms of trade, however, Conseillante was the 2005 to appear in this week’s top 5. Continuing with Bordeaux, the 97-point Pape Clement 2012 – one of the big winners in Parker’s recent in-bottle scoring of the vintage – saw good activity at £475 per 12×75 case.

Beyond Bordeaux, Champagne continues to excel, taking close to a tenth of all trade by value. This week it was boosted by Taittinger Comtes 2005, Bollinger Special Cuvee NV and Cristal 2006. Meanwhile from the USA, while last week the 100-point Screaming Eagle 2010 was one of the most traded wines by value, this week its fellow 100-point 2012 found the bid.
