Vieux Chateau Certan has been released at €102 per bottle ex-negociant, up 13.3% on both the 2013 and 2012 (€90). It is offered by merchants at £995 per 12×75. Although not the cheapest vintage on the market, the 2014 has proved popular with both merchants and critics: it was  – unquestionably –  voted ‘wine of the vintage’ by the international trade in the Liv-ex members’ En Primeur survey, with over half of respondents naming it among their top five wines of 2014. Neal Martin appeared to agree, suggesting: “Alexandre and his son, Guillaume Thienpont may have overseen the best wine of the vintage.” That said, as the chart above shows, the 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2012 may still offer better value to the buyer.
