As the trade approach the end of the 2014 En Primeur campaign, both the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 index and Bordeaux’s trade share held steady. Other French regions also traded well: Burgundy and Champagne both had strong weeks – at Italy’s expense.
With only six weeks until the publication of Robert Parker’s ten year review of 2005, the vintage continued to see high levels of activity: three of the top five traded wines by value came from this vintage. Cos d’Estournel 2005 – currently 98 points from Parker – took the top spot, while Cheval Blanc 2005 (96 points) and Lafite Rothschild 2005 (96+) also featured.
Gruaud Larose 2012 – the brand’s cheapest vintage on the market – traded in high volumes while its more highly priced En Primeur release failed to fly off the shelves. The 2012 has recently been scored 89 point in bottle by Robert Parker from a barrel range of 85-87.
Pape Clement 2012 was also upgraded by Parker (from a barrel range of 92-95 to 97 points), who described it as “truly great wine and not far off their magnificent 2005 and 2010” and also traded in high volume this week.
