Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 rises 0.1% in April

LX1000_subindices

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 index rose 0.35 points in April to end the month on 234.6, up 0.1% on the previous month’s close. With the Liv-ex 100 and Liv-ex 50 also moving up, all of the major indices ended the month in positive territory. This breaks the pattern found in several previous years when prices began to fall in April after disappointing starts to the En Primeur campaigns. In spite of a muted response to Bordeaux 2014 so far, the upward movement of these indices appears to suggest that positive sentiment in the physical market is holding.

This month the Liv-ex 1000 was boosted by Bordeaux: the Bordeaux Legends 50 was the strongest performing sub-index – rising 0.51% – while the Bordeaux 500 saw steady gain, closing the month up 0.48%.

While Bordeaux gained, sub-indices from all other regions fell. The Rest of the World 50 saw the steepest decline – it fell 0.99% – but is still the strongest performer over the past 12 months. The Champagne 50 also dropped after seeing the greatest gain last month.
