Domaine de Chevalier was released today at €33.6 per bottle ex-negociant, up 22.2% on 2013 (€27.5) and up 12% on 2012 (€30). It is being offered by merchants at £330 per 12×75. At this level, several back vintages are available on the secondary market at lower prices. In particular, the 2008 appears to offer relative value: it has the same price and points as the latest release, but several years in bottle. Neal Martin described the 2014 as a “quintessential” Domaine de Chevalier, “which is what we all want”. The trade appeared to agree, voting it into joint third place (with Leoville Poyferre) in the sub-£500 category of the Liv-ex members’ En Primeur survey. But at this price, will collectors respond?
