Cantemerle released today at €17.5 per bottle ex-negociant, up 3.6% on 2013 (€16.9) and down 1.7% on 2012 (€17.8). With a merchant release price of £170 per 12×75, it is cheaper than all back vintages previous to the 2011. In terms of scores, it is comparable to the 2008 which is currently being offered at £190: a modest 12% above the most recent release.
Cantenac Brown released today at €25.8 per bottle ex-negociant, up 7.5% on 2013 (€24) and up 2.4% on 2012 (€25.2). Being offered by merchants for £250 per 12×75, it is cheaper than all vintages previous to 2011 and also has the second highest critic score, making it appear to offer the best value of this afternoon’s three major releases. Neal Martin described it as “a spicy Margaux that will give 15 to 20 years of pleasure”.
Clos Marquis also came out today. It is being offered at €29.5 per bottle ex-negociant, up 9.3% on both the 2013 and 2012 releases (€27). With an expected merchant release price of £290 per 12×75, it is marginally cheaper than a number of back vintages. However, the 2012 looks to offer better value: it has a higher critic score – 91-93 from Robert Parker – and is available at a 13% discount on the 2014.
