Talking trade: 27th March – 9th April

LXFW50

After a slow month for Bordeaux in March, the region has bounced back in April: it took 82.1% of all trade by value over the past fortnight compared to 72.9% in March. The First Growths saw steady activity, accounting for 32.2% of trade and occupying all but one of the positions in the top traded (by value) table.

Both Lafite Rothschild 2012 and Mouton Rothschild 2012 traded well over the past fortnight. With these wines now trading at 23% and 11% respectively below their London opening prices, could buyers finally be finding value in the vintage? (Or are they taking a view on 2014 release prices?) The 2005s continued to attract demand: Petrus and Lafite Rothschild saw the highest activity by value while Cos d’Estournel 2005 entered the top volume table once again after several appearances last month.

With summer on its way, Champagne continued to trade in high volumes: Taittinger Comtes 2005 and Louis Roederer Cristal 2006 both proved popular over the past two weeks. New releases from the Super Tuscan producers also continued to see demand – this time it was Ornellaia 2012 which took 2.4% of trade by volume.

Talking Trade this week sees an extended report due to the Easter Bank Holiday.
