Liv-ex 100 drops 0.4% in March

Liv-ex 100 March

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index closed the month on 241.03, down 0.4% on February’s level. Meanwhile the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 held relatively steady until the last week of the month when it drifted, eventually closing March on 268.17, down 0.6%.

With the trade readying itself for En Primeur 2014, the region’s market share was just 72.9%, lower than its 2014 average of 79.1%. The top three monthly movers within the Liv-ex 100 were all from beyond the Gironde: Ornellaia 2009 (97 points from Antonio Galloni) and Solaia 2010 (98) led the charge for Italy. With buyers stocking up for summer, Champagne also proved popular and the region took 9.6% of March trade, far above its 2014 average of 3.0%. While Cristal 2004 moved up 4.3%, Taittinger Comtes 2004 saw prices drift.

Meanwhile the ex-chateaux release of Latour 2003 had little positive impact on the prices of other vintages: both the 2009 and 2005 were among the biggest fallers in March.
