With Bordeaux 2014 releases beginning to trickle out, today saw the release of Gazin and Suduiraut. The red was released at €39.60 per bottle ex-negociant, up 4.2% on 2013 (at €38) and 1.5% on 2012 (€39). What matters most is how it compares against the current market price of vintages already in the market. With UK merchants offering it for £385 per 12×75, Gazin 2014 can be bought for the same price as the 2007 but is cheaper than the majority of back vintages available. Liv-ex will publish the results of its annual EP survey in the next couple of weeks, but early reports from the trade liken the red Bordeaux 2014s to 2006 and 2008. They have the advantage of years in bottle, but Gazin 2014 is cheaper than both. Will 2014 be cheap enough for buyers?

As we examined in depth last year, sweet whites have struggled to appreciate on the secondary market, with the Sauternes 50 index running flat over the last ten years. However, recent vintages have far outshone the reds, and 2014 looks to be another great vintage for the sweet whites: James Suckling declared them “excellent” and James Molesworth described Yquem as a “wine of the vintage candidate”. Suduiraut, which has a score of 93-96 in barrel from James Molesworth, released today at €42 per bottle ex-negociant; the same price as the 2013. While the Molesworth score for Suduiraut 2014 is higher than many Parker scores for the last ten vintages, at a London release price of £415 it is more expensive than all but the 2009 and 2013.
