With En Primeur – and anticipation of the Bordeaux 2014s – just around the corner, Bordeaux’s share of trade dipped below 70% this week. Nonetheless there were several talking points from the Medoc; the first being the ex-chateau release of Latour 2003, which was released onto the international market at £6,500 per 12×75. Meanwhile an ex-chateau release of Cheval Blanc 2005 ensured that the wine continued to generate interest.
Buyers are beginning to stock up on Champagne for the summer, leaving the region to take a high 14.7% of overall trade by value and 17.2% by volume. Trade was dominated by Louis Roederer Cristal 2006, the cheapest of Cristal’s most recent vintages, while Dom Perignon 2003 and 2004 also saw good activity.
After weeks at the top of the most traded tables Brunello di Montalcino 2010 was no longer the Italian wine in the limelight. Trade for Italian wines was buoyed by Sassicaia 2012 – the most recent release – and by Sassicaia’s second wine, San Guido Guidalberto 2011.
