April saw the beginning and end of another poorly priced Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, which once again failed to excite the market. Consequently the Liv-ex indices continued their descent; both the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 and Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 fell 1% to close the month on 246.58 and 280.88 respectively.
Price movements were minimal in April, with only eight of the wines in the Liv-ex 100 rising more than 2%. At the top of the table was Cristal 2002, which climbed 7.5%, and two 2009 Burgundies. At the other end was another typically favoured 2002 champagne, Taittinger Comtes, but once again Bordeaux dominated the fallers, with three quarters of Bordeaux wines in the Liv-ex 100 either falling or remaining flat in April.
