Montrose 2013: concern builds

Montrose_2013

Montrose 2013 was released today at €57.6 per bottle, the same price as the 2012, despite calls for prices to be lowered on what is considered a weak vintage by critics and the trade. Some UK merchants have started offering the wine for £630 per 12×75, although others have said they will not offer it at all, and from the chart above it is plain to see why.

At a price of £630 Montrose 2013 is more expensive than the 2012, 2011, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2004 and 2002, and represents just an 8% margin for the merchant. The release of the 2013 at this price suggests that the Chateau is not interested in selling its wine through to the collector. The worry for the broader market is the financial stress that yet another unsold vintage will put on a distribution system that has long been the envy of the wine world.
