Margaux 2013 was the third of the Firsts to release (following Lafite and Mouton), coming out today at €215 per bottle ex-negociant, €1 lower than Mouton and down 10% on its 2012. With a UK release price of £2,400 per 12×75, the 2013 is the cheapest vintage in the market.
Margaux 2013 was a wine that divided merchants. In the Liv-ex annual En Primeur survey, it was voted most disappointing wine of the vintage but also third favourite. Critics, however, were unanimous in their approval: for James Suckling, it was ‘spectacular for the vintage […] a wine that I want to buy’, scoring 94-95, and Antonio Galloni called it ‘impressive […] a terrific showing’.
With half of the key wines having now already released, this looks set to be one of the quickest campaigns in En Primeur history – but as yet, the only 2013s to have found a secondary market are Lafite and Carruades de Lafite.
