Bordeaux 2012 is now well underway, with Lafite Rothschild (€330 per bottle ex negociant) (LWIN 10118722012), Carruades de
Lafite (€100-€105) (LWIN 10078402012) and Duhart Milon (€53) (LWIN 10094822012) among yesterday’s releases. All three chateaux
have reduced prices from last year, making the 2012 the cheapest on the market.
The charts below highlight the price difference between the
2012s and older wines. With an opening price in London of £1,095 per 12×75, Carruades is
12% cheaper than its 2011 and under half the price of many earlier vintages.
Duhart 2012 is between 10% and 30% cheaper than its predecessors.
Lafite is one of three 2012s that has already sold on the
secondary market (the other two are Mouton and L’Evangile). Offered at £3,850
per 12×75 in London, Lafite 2012 costs less than half its 2009 and 2010, and is
17.5% cheaper than its 2011: a price, it seems, to which the market responds.
