Scores push prices for Pontet and Ducru 2010

By February 18, 2013Bordeaux, Regions

A plethora of critics – including James Suckling, Jean-Marc
Quarin and Neal Martin – have now released their scores for what Suckling
deemed the ‘truly superb’ Bordeaux 2010 vintage. Last
year
we watched as the critics’ in-bottle scores caused several wines’
prices to skyrocket – but with the 2010 already costing as much as or more than
the 2009 vintage, the price movement has been more muted.

To date, only two wines have seen a notable impact: Ducru Beaucaillou
(L-WIN 10094792010)
and Pontet Canet (L-WIN 10143072010).
Prices for both have risen since Suckling awarded them perfect scores, with the
latter trading today for £1,325 per 12×75 on Liv-ex – a 5% increase on its December
price.

With Robert Parker due to release his in-bottle scores at
the end of this month, prices are sure to get more volatile. But the question
still remains: how much is already in the price?
