Mouton 08 trades at £3,100

By December 11, 2012Bordeaux, Regions

Back in June we reported on the remarkable price
history
of Mouton Rothschild 2008. The wine saw its price double in two
months, aided by a bottle label designed by a Chinese artist (thus capitalising
on the auspiciousness of the number eight to the Chinese).

Having reached a high of £8,300 per 12×75 in December 2010,
the price fell over the next eighteen months. In June 2012 it had dropped back
to around the £4,000 mark – the price it was trading for before the in-bottle wine
was released.

Yet the last few months have seen the price fall further. Yesterday
Mouton 2008 traded on Liv-ex for £3,100: a price not seen since April 2010.

Data in the latest Cellar
Watch Market Report
points to the First Growths having perhaps overshot
their recent price correction.  With ten
of Mouton’s last 15 physical vintages seeing positive monthly price movements
in November, the 2008 may not keep its low price-tag for long.
