The UGC tasting of the Bordeaux 2010s took place in London on
Monday. Pichon Baron (LWIN 10141632010)
was broadly regarded as the stand-out wine of the vintage. As we
reported in June, the brand as a whole has risen, with an index of its recent
vintages outperforming the Left Bank 200, within which it sits.
The wine has traded on Liv-ex this week for £1,333 per
12×75: it is currently the most expensive of any of Pichon Baron’s last ten
vintages (2001 – 2010), with the 2000 slightly more dear (£1,360 per 12×75). Smith
Haut Lafitte (LWIN 10152612010),
also commended at the tastings, has traded several times on Liv-ex this week –
the last was for £644 per 12×75. Again this is one of the most expensive of any
of its recent vintages, bar the 2009.
Other 2010s that were not at the tasting have also seen
recent activity on Liv-ex. In the last ten days there have been trades for
Montrose, Eglise Clinet, Pontet Canet, Pin and Lynch Bages. Yet this week has
seen comparatively little trades for the 2010s off the back of the UGC tasting.
While the tasting certainly confirmed the quality of the vintage, it is widely believed
to be already in the price.
