Carruades 2011 fails to climb in price

When we initially reported on the release of Carruades de Lafite 2011 at €108 per bottle ex-negociant, we were still waiting to see whether there would be any interest from the secondary market.  Two weeks’ later, and with the trade long returned from Vinexpo, the wine has seen steady demand.

However, it is trading on Liv-ex for more than £1,000 less than any other Carruades vintage, and has not seen any price increase since release. Indeed, the 2011 is the first Carruades for many years that has not seen an immediate spike on the secondary market.

With the 2011 at currently just £100 a bottle, a price difference of this level seems unsustainable. Whether it rises in price over the next few weeks, or whether the earlier vintages will start to fall to meet it, remains to be seen.
