Lafite 2000 – The millennium vintage

By March 30, 2012Uncategorized

After posting dramatic price falls last year, recent vintages of Lafite have begun to find a level. "Lesser" vintages, such as the 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007, are currently changing hands at between £6,000 and £6,500 per case. The '06 is one of the most affordable vintages of Lafite on the market and last traded on the Liv-ex exchange at £6,430. Recent trade prices are shown in the chart below, which is taken straight from the pages of Cellar Watch

While "off" vintages have found support at around £6,000, high-scoring Lafites, including the 1996, 2005, 2009 and 2010, are trading at between £8,500 and £9,800. The anomaly, however, is Lafite 2000.

Despite losing its perfect Parker score in 2010 – and falling 32 per cent last year – Lafite 2000 recently gained a foothold at £16,500, making it 77 per cent more expensive than the 100-point 1996. Clearly, the millennium vintage continues to hold special appeal.
