08 label reveal boosts Mouton trade

By November 30, 2010Bordeaux, Regions

Mouton's announcement yesterday that Beijing-based Xu Lei is the artist behind the 2008 label has seen demand for the vintage step up a notch. Whilst the most recent Mouton 08 trade prior to the announcement reached £6,910 per 12x75cl case – the equivalent of £3,455 per six pack – the vintage changed hands numerous times today at £4,000 per 6x75cl case (+15%). According to Liv-ex trade prices, this means that the 08 has increased in value by almost 68% since the start of the month.

It is also interesting to note that the increase in demand for the 2008 has inspired heavy back vintage trade, with both the 2006 and the 2003 touching new highs. The former sold this morning at £5,100 (12x75cl), up from £4,850 last month, whilst the 2003 traded at £3,625. (The wine is currently offered on the exchange at £3,675.)

The chart below shows the current prices of Mouton vintages 2000-2009. As you can see, the 2008 is now the second-most expensive vintage available.
