Pavie Macquin 2009

Yesterday we saw a release that clearly worked. Pavie Macquin emerged at €49 p/b – up 81% on 2008 and 7% on 2005. Once again, the Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé was a big hit with Parker, scoring 94-96 points. So is 2009 a clear buy? The secondary market certainly seems to think so. The wine is currently bid at £700 and offered at £760, suggesting that the price for the consumer – bar those with early allocations – will be upwards of £800. This is £200 cheaper than the 2005 vintage (RP 98), which is trading at just over £1000 per case.

For those who want a Pavie Macquin without the 09 price tag, 2008 is another vintage to look out for. It is currently trading at £400 per case – boasting enormous value for a 93-95 point wine.
