James Suckling on 2007 Bordeaux

By March 8, 2010Bordeaux, Regions

James Suckling of the Wine Spectator has released his final in-bottle scores for the 2007 vintage and highlights the difficulties the vintage faces. The 2007s now arrive into a precarious world economy, where there is an abundance of good wines already in the market (from Bordeaux and beyond). They are also seemingly in direct competition with well reviewed 2008s and the hotly anticipated 2009s.

Given this situation are buyers likely to dip into their pockets to purchase wines seen by many as overpriced and as “good but nothing special”?

Perhaps, he believes, but only if we start seeing heavy discounts from negociants keen to realise some cash for their 2009 purchases.

Overall he scored the left bank reds 85 (2002 scored 86, 1999 scored 87) and the right bank 86 (2002 got 87 and 1999 85). The top properties worked hard and produced some very good efforts but for the most part (with the exception of the “outstanding” whites) 2007 produced “pretty red wines for early drinking”.

Below we detail the top-scoring wines. To read the full review visit www.winespectator.com.
