As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2021 has been released at €156 per bottle ex-négociant, down 2.5% on the 2020’s opening price. Volumes released are down 40% on last year.

It is being offered by the international trade for £1,908 per 12×75. The 2019, 2018, 2016 and 2014 vintages look better value compared to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Many critics mentioned the low alcohol levels in this year’s Ducru-Beaucaillou – just 12.5%. Neal Martin (Vinous) said it was a ‘fascinating, almost old school Ducru-Beaucaillou’ and rated it 94-96 points.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) was more enthusiastic, rating it 96-98 points and describing it as ‘superb’.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) scored the wine 92-94+, while William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave it 94-96 points.

Fair Value analysis

Prices for Ducru-Beaucaillou show correlation to Wine Advocate (56.1%) and James Suckling’s (51.6%) scores. Liv-ex members on Silver packages or higher can explore more via the Fair Value tool.

Buyers looking for value might be interested in the similarly scored 2014, which is available for a 27.7% discount.

They might also consider the 2016, 2018 and 2019 vintages, which have higher scores but lower prices than today’s release.
