Readers of the recent posts on the monthly performance of the Liv-ex 100 and Liv-ex 1000 will have noticed a theme, the success of Champagne in July.
The Champagne 50 index was up 2.7% by the end of last month and is currently the best-performing Liv-ex 1000 sub-index over one year (+13.15%).
Three of the best-performing wines in the Liv-ex 100 index last month were Champagnes – 2009 Cristal, 2009 Dom Pérignon and 2008 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill.
Salon and Krug are currently the best-performing Champagnes (LWIN7s) in the Champagne 50 over the past year (July 2020 – July 2021).
Think pink
In total, 36 Champagnes (LWIN11s) rose in value in July. This ranged from the 2004 Sir Winston Churchill up just 0.3% to Dom Pérignon’s 2004 rosé which was the month’s best-performing Champagne overall, up 12%.
Champagne is flying currently, and pink Champagne is also increasingly seeing more trade and stronger returns.
