LIVE opportunities: Italy, the champions of Europe

Congratulations to Italy, who edged past England 3-2 in a penalty shootout to win the European Championships.

The revitalised Italian side, which failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2018, was pulled together by Roberto Mancini and now sits at the top of European football.

Italy’s rise to prominence in the secondary market has followed a similar path.

In 2017, Italian wine made up just 6.4% of the secondary market’s trade by value – similar to that of Margaux or Pessac-Léognan alone.

With a rising appreciation of the quality of the wines, increasingly glowing critical reviews and a steady uptake from merchants and consumers, Italian trade share by value now sits at 16.2% in 2021.

The region consistently ranks third in monthly trade share, behind the traditional powerhouses of Bordeaux and Burgundy, although the chances of matching Burgundian trade is now in sight.

The growth in trade share for Italy, and its sub-regions, can be seen in the chart below.

Attached are the best offers of Italian wines – including offers lower than and around Market Price.
