PREMIUM
CONTENT

  • The wine is being offered for £492 (12×75) SEP.
  • “A classy Giscours,” according to Neal Martin.
  • The 2019 and 2015 also offer good value for money.

The 2020 Château Giscours has been released for €40.8 per bottle ex-négociant, up 21.4% on the 2019 release.

The international trade is offering the wine for £492 per 12×75, 17.1% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.

Production volumes are down on last year, with yields down 25% due to heat and dry weather during the summer.

Critical opinion

Today’s release received a barrel range of 93-95 from Vinous’ critics, Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni.

Galloni called it “a real charmer” that “will drink well with minimal cellaring”. For Martin too, “this is a classy Giscours with plenty of breeding”.

James Suckling awarded the 2020 Giscours 96-97 points and complimented its “endless length and such refinement”. “Rather ethereal,” he said.

Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) gave it 95-97, and Falstaff and Jane Anson (Decanter) 94-points.

Fair Value

Based on Benchmark Critic scores, the 2015 and 2019 vintages offer some of the best value for money. Both cost less than today’s release and boast higher score of 95-points from Neal Martin.

Prices for Giscours, however, are more influenced by age than scores. The 2012 and 2014 vintages look compelling as well. The 2007 likewise falls well below the Fair Value line at £465 a case and with 14 years of bottle-age.

Other releases

La Sirène de Giscours 2020 was also released this morning at €18 per bottle ex-négociant. The wine is being offered for £228 per 12×75.

Le Haut-Medoc de Giscours 2020 was released for €11.4 per bottle ex-négociant and is being offered for £137 per 12×75.
