  • “It will battle the 2019 for supremacy,” says Neal Martin.
  • The wine has been released internationally at £939 (12×75).
  • The higher scored 2015 looks to offer good value for money.

The 2020 Château Clos Fourtet has been released for €78 per bottle ex-négociant, up 18.2% on the 2019 release.

The wine is being offered by the international trade for £939 per 12×75, 11.8% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.

Other than last year’s release, the 97-point Neal Martin 2015 vintage looks compelling. See more Fair Value analysis below.

Critical opinion

The 2020 Clos Fourtet received 95-97 points from Neal Martin (Vinous). “This is a very impressive Clos Fourtet that brims with freshness and persistence, gaining weight and depth over the course of an hour,” he said.

Antonio Galloni (96-98) observed that this is “absolutely breathtaking from barrel”. “The 2020 is all class,” he added.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) and Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) rated it 96-98 points.

Jeb Dunnuck gave it 97-99 and called it “one of the biggest successes on the upper plateau”.

Fair Value

The 2020 looks roughly in line with the pricing of recent vintages. The 2019, however, carries the same score and is available for less.

The 2015 also offers very good value for money with 97-points from Neal Martin and with a price tag of £860 per case.
