Clos du Marquis 2020 En Primeur: “sensual and inviting”

Clos du Marquis

The 2020 Clos du Marquis has been released for €37.20 per bottle ex-négociant, up 14.8% on the 2019’s release price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £450 per 12×75, 10% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.

Critical opinion

Neal Martin (Vinous) gave today’s release a barrel range of 92-94 points. He called it “excellent” and, “quite classic in style, in keeping with the leitmotif of the vintage”.

Antonio Galloni awarded (91-93)+, noting that this 2020 Clos du Marquis is “plush, sensual and inviting, with soft contours that make it a real pleasure to taste today”.

The wine received 94-95 points from James Suckling and 93-95 from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate).

James Lawther MW (JancisRobinson.com) gave it 17+ and said it has “definite potential”.

Fair Value

The 2020 comes at a similar price level as the 2016 vintage (£454), which boasts a slightly higher Benchmark Critic score of 94 points from Neal Martin.

The 2014 is another compelling offer, with 92 points from Neal Martin, but costing 15.8% less than today’s release.
